Midimalism in The Bermondsey kitchen - where restraint meets warmth

Ledbury Studio’s latest commission brings together bold materiality, refined detailing, and intelligent storage – all within the elegant framework of a Victorian townhouse in Central London.

Designed for a client relocating from a large country residence. With less space but no less ambition, her brief was clear: maximise storage, incorporate our signature aged copper finishes, and create a space that felt both glamorous and grounded.The result is a layered, luxurious interior that marries practicality with poetic design.

The beauty of intentional design

From the moment we began, this kitchen was destined to be more than just practical. It became a celebration of Midimalism – a design philosophy rooted in balance, clarity, and feeling.

Charlie says, “Midimalism, for me, is about paring things back without losing soul. It’s not about stark spaces or loud design statements. It’s about balance – the kind that comes from considered design, honest materials and a clear sense of purpose. It’s where restraint meets warmth. Where function works with feeling, not against it.”

A quiet statement in copper and stone

At the heart of the design, black-stained oak cabinetry provides a subdued backdrop for the kitchen’s hero materials. Ledbury Studio’s signature aged copper – featured across cabinet fronts, sliding panels and a bold double-door larder – brings richness and character. Distressed brass handles, individually cast and aged by hand, introduce further nuance and tactility.

The centrepiece island, clad in Tiffany Blue Amazonite Quartzite, makes a quietly confident statement. A waterfall edge adds sculptural impact, while generous seating accommodates casual dining and family gatherings with ease.

Everyday function, elevated for occasion

A large island with seating for six anchors the space, offering plenty of room for preparing, gathering, and entertaining. Discreet LED-lit shelving with a backdrop of antique Latina mirror glass adds both practical storage and soft ambient glow. Meanwhile, a bank of tall cupboards with sliding copper panels provides seamless access while maintaining visual harmony.

In the dining zone, the same copper finish is reimagined on larder doors, flanked by open shelving in Farrow & Ball’s Vardo – a vivid contrast that offers a perfect stage for personal treasures and decorative pieces.

This kitchen is about more than aesthetics. It’s about intention, atmosphere, and ease – the essence of Midimalism in every detail.
