Ledbury Studio’s year so far: three beautifully contrasting kitchens

Can you believe we’re already halfway through 2025? As we pause to take stock at the midpoint of the year, one thing is clear: it’s been a season of remarkable contrasts at Ledbury Studio. A quick scroll through the recent projects reveals just how varied – and beautifully individual – its work has been.

Charlie Smallbone, founder of Ledbury Studio, reflects, “Looking back at the first half of the year, what strikes me most is the sheer variety of kitchens we’ve created – each one a true reflection of its owners. From the soft elegance of Oxford to the urban edge of Bermondsey and the rustic warmth of the Cotswolds, every project has its own rhythm and soul. That’s what Ledbury Studio is all about: design that’s as distinctive as the people who live with it.”

Read on for a closer look at three standout kitchens from 2025 so far – each one a masterclass in craftsmanship, character and contrast.

Oxford kitchen: Industrial meets indulgent

In this Oxford home, Ledbury Studio reimagined stainless steel as a luxurious material, far from its industrial roots. Paired with aged brass, rich walnut and timeless marble, the result is a kitchen that feels both warm and unapologetically elegant.

The client wanted a space that radiated femininity and softness, without sacrificing function. With a La Cornue range cooker already selected as the centrepiece, Charlie Smallbone designed a bespoke scheme of brushed stainless-steel cabinetry softened with hand-applied brass detailing, echoing the range’s aesthetic.

At the kitchen’s heart is a sculptural Carrara marble island, bisected by English walnut and finished with patinated brass corners. On the island’s front, distressed brass cladding adds texture, while fluted glass cabinets and custom-crafted drawers lend a refined edge. The kitchen flows effortlessly into a dining space, complete with a bespoke walnut table, banquette seating, and twin Choppy Water (Ledbury Studio’s signature carved texture) oak cupboards housing a cocktail bar and larder.

Bermondsey kitchen: Urban drama and artisanal detail

Designed for a client moving from the countryside into a Victorian townhouse in Central London, the Bermondsey kitchen is a bold statement in urban luxury. This open-plan space combines dramatic materials with considered design – proving that downsizing need not mean compromising on style.

The star of the scheme is aged, patinated copper – chosen for its richness and artisanal character – paired with black-stained oak cabinetry and custom-cast brass handles. Full-height copper-clad doors reveal open shelving and antique mirrored glass, while discreet pantry doors conceal clever storage solutions.

At the centre, a striking island in Tiffany Blue Amazonite Quartzite commands attention, offering seating for six and generous storage. The kitchen transitions into a stylish dining area, where copper-clad larder doors framed by Vardo-painted shelves create a focal point that’s both personal and practical.

Cotswolds kitchen: Rustic soul with a modern edge

Set in a lovingly restored period home, this Cotswolds kitchen marks the final chapter of a four-year renovation. The brief? To create a warm, welcoming kitchen-living space that respects the home’s heritage while introducing modern touches in unexpected ways.

Here, contrast is key: textured crown oak cabinetry sits alongside sleek stainless-steel appliances, combining rustic charm with contemporary edge. With low ceilings, the design avoids upper cabinets in favour of streamlined base units that showcase the beauty of the natural wood grain. Diamond Quartzite adds polish and contrast, used across worktops, splashbacks and a sculptural sink.

Designed for relaxed living and entertaining, the kitchen features a bespoke breakfast and drinks cupboard clad in Ledbury Studio’s signature Verdigris copper, complete with wine storage, sink, fridge and coffee station – all finished with an elegant eglomise mirror back panel. A cleverly concealed walk-in pantry beneath the stairs adds a splash of sunshine, with yellow-painted cupboards and aged brass handles delivering one last layer of thoughtful detail.

A year of craftsmanship, character and contrast

“From town to country, modern to classic, bold to understated – the first half of 2025 has showcased Ledbury Studio’s passion for crafting kitchens that are as expressive as they are functional,” concludes Charlie. “Each one is a testament to the belief that true luxury lies in the details – and that no two kitchens should ever look, or feel, the same.”
