The Notting Hill Kitchen
Our client’s brief was for a sophisticated and contemporary kitchen with plenty of storage and a dining area for informal eating in this lovely townhouse in Notting Hill. As they had fallen in love with Arabascato Nero marble Charlie decided to showcase this beautiful material by making it the dramatic centrepiece of the kitchen with an imposing marble clad pedestal base to the breakfast bar for maximum wow factor. Fabricated bullnose edge detailing was specially designed and the marble was honed for a softer more understated elegance. As the island was being installed on a suspended floor , the technical construction of the island had to be carefully designed so that the floor could withstand the weight of this 5 .25m long worktop with two slabs of the marble book matched in the middle for a seamless effect.

Natural oak was chosen as the material for the cupboards and given a light finish by rubbing back the wood to expose the grain and finished with a pigmented pale wash. The handleless base cupboards and specially designed recessed handles for the tall cupboards keep the design minimal and contemporary . The wall cupboards and island base cupboard doors have shallow fluting and to enhance the impact the timber grain was fluted horizontally rather than vertically creating a softer textured finish.
The tall cupboards include plenty of storage with a breakfast cupboard with pocket doors and interiors fully fitted to our client’s specifications. All in all the kitchen is chic and understated with the Ledbury touch of sophistication and drama.
